'Get tested' message after Covid-19 outbreak linked to Carlisle pubs

People who attended three Carlisle pubs earlier this month are being urged to get tested for Covid-19, even if they do not have symptoms.

This comes after more positive COVID-19 cases were found in the Carlisle area.

The three pubs are:

  • The Turf, Carlisle – Thursday 9 July, Friday 10 July and Sunday 12 July

  • Lloyds Bar, Carlisle – Saturday 11 July

  • The Museum, Carlisle – Monday 13 July

A group of people who attended the pubs on these dates, and also attended a house party, have been linked to recent coronavirus cases. A total of six people associated with this group have tested positive.

Colin Cox, Cumbria’s Director of Public Health, said:

“This was always the risk as lockdown restrictions eased. We now have a situation where the virus has been passing between people in the community and this is something we do not want. To keep our communities safe we need people to take this seriously and follow the guidance.

“People may think that six positive cases is not many, but once you start to map out who those six have been in contact with, then the number of potential contacts rapidly increases. To help us get on top of the situation we’re asking people who were at these pubs to get tested, and if they are positive then to get in touch with the local Cumbria County Council COVID-19 call centre on 0800 783 1968 so they can ensure people get the advice they need and their contacts can be traced."

The key public health messages are still:

  • Wash or sanitise hands regularly

  • Observe social distancing rules

  • Wear face masks or coverings in enclosed public spaces

  • If you have symptoms, self-isolate and get tested

  • Follow advice to self-isolate if asked

Testing is available in Carlisle at Brunton Park from Monday to Wednesday and in Penrith at the Rugby Club 7 days a week. People can book a test here.

Testing is also available in Annan and Gretna.

People can find more information about testing locations here.
