Save Stan: Jimmy Glass shows support for goalie gloves raffle

Carlisle United hero Jimmy Glass has shown his support for a raffle - with his goalie gloves as the prize - to raise money for a two-year-old Carlisle boy who is battling leukemia for the third time.

21 years ago, the goalkeeper kept his side in the Football League with a dramatic goal. Jimmy gave away his gloves from that famous match - and now they're up for grabs again.

They're owned by David Mitchell - who was a ball boy at the game - and he's decided to raffle them to help support young Stan.

The parents of a Stanley were told in June that their son's cancer - T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia - had returned and there was nothing that could be done.

The family have been fundraising ever since to send the toddler to Singapore for a medical trial that could potentially save his life. They would have to move there for a year and the treatment alone would cost half a million pounds.

All of the money raised from the raffle of Jimmy's gloves will go towards the cause. More than £300,000 has already been raised through the colossal effort of the local community in Carlisle and beyond.

Speaking to ITV Border, Jimmy said: "It's a lovely thing that David's doing because he's a massive Carlisle fan, so to give away my gloves from that day is massive gesture from him. I couldn't be happier.

"To keep the gloves in Carlisle and in Cumbria would be fantastic. It's a lovely prize for someone to win and hopefully they can see a lot of tickets and raise some money for this young lad."

Jimmy has been asked to draw the raffle live on Facebook on Friday 17th July.

He said: "I know times are tough for everybody at the moment, but it's £5 to win these gloves and a little piece of history, and more importantly to help Stanley's family."
