One of Carlisle's biggest events venues closes after more than 45 years
A popular Carlisle restaurant and events venue that has been running for more than 45 years is closing permanently.
Owners of the Shepherds at Rosehill say lost trade due to the Covid-19 pandemic has hit the business hard.
Formerly known as the Shepherd's Inn, it was a popular site for wedding receptions, civic dinners and conferences and regularly hosted farming community gatherings.
It was announced on Thursday that they had made the 'difficult decision' not to reopen the function room, but say it will be used for a future redevelopment.

A spokesperson from the Shepherds and Auctioneer said: "We are extremely sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience that this will cause for our loyal customers and particularly for those who had events booked in the Shepherds in the future.
"We would like to thank all of our customers over the years for bringing many fantastic functions and events to the venue.
"The Auctioneer and Auctioneer Suite remain very much open for business and we look forward to welcoming our customers back soon."
