Keswick shoppers asked to cover their face while in stores

People shopping in popular market town in Cumbria are being asked to wear face coverings any time they go into a store.

It's part of a campaign started up last month by a Keswick resident, Cole Kelly.

Cole Kelly, ‘About Face’ campaign creator: “It’s been very quiet in town, but we know people are coming back and we want people to come back to our lovely shops, but people move the virus around and that’s what happens.

"So, I thought if we could encourage people that masks are a positive thing, it’s about community it’s about others, then we could help keep transmission rates low.”

The campaign has now got the backing of Keswick Town Council. Councillor Paul Titley and Mayor, said “Most shops in small towns like Keswick are relatively small, enclosed spaces, so it makes eminently god sense to have one of these one when you’re in such premises.”

When worn and used correctly masks and face coverings can help impede the spread of the virus.

Dr Ajay Bedi said: “We’re not sure if facial coverings in some circumstances might increase the risk of infection for an individual so anyone who’s going to use facial coverings I’d suggest need to, for example need to look at the World Health Organisation website, which shows you how to properly put them on and take them off and clean them."
