Police investigate after woman raped in Penrith

An investigation is underway after a woman was raped in north Cumbria.

It happened in the early hours of the morning, on Sunday 14 June, in the Carelton Road area of Penrith.

Police received a report of rape which was alleged to have occurred in an alleyway shortly after 1:30am.

A woman in her 30s, from the local area, is receiving supported by officers.

Detective Inspector Patrick McDonnell, North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said: “An investigation into a report of rape is ongoing.

"We have a team of detectives who have conducted numerous enquiries, including house-to-house and CCTV, to fully establish what has occurred.

“I would encourage anyone with any information on this incident to please contact us as it may assist our investigation.”

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from the North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team or quote incident number 39 of 14 June.
