Two rescued from the River Nith in Dumfries and Galloway

Two people have been rescued by emergency services after getting into difficulty in the River Nith, in Dumfries.

Nith Inshore Rescue were contacted by Belfast Coastguard on Thursday evening after reports of two people in the water, at Kingholm Quay.

They were found and recovered from the river, just south of the quay, and handed to Scottish ambulance to be treated.

A spokesperson from Nith Inshore Rescue said: "Thanks to the first informants who called 999. Police, fire and Coastguard also in attendance."
