Homes evacuated following large garage fire in Carlisle

An investigation is underway after a large garage fire broke out in the Newby West area of Carlisle in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue are both looking into the incident, which happened at about 4:40am.

Wigton Road was closed for a short time and a local evacuation of properties took place, the road has since reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
