NHS D&G ask public not to donate homemade PPE directly to hospital

NHS Dumfries and Galloway has asked members of the public not to visit hospitals to directly deliver items they have made, including PPE.

They have stressed how grateful they are for the support, however not all donations like scrubs and knitted tokens can be accepted as they have to follow 'agreed protocol' like infection control.

A spokesperson from the trust said: "NHS Dumfries & Galloway are unable to directly accept any knitted goods including PPE, keepsakes and clothing. Unfortunately, any knitted donations cannot be used. We appreciate your support, cooperation and time during this extraordinary time."

For the Love of Scrubs is a national initiative, which has a branch in Dumfries. They sew vital clothing for hospital staff and care workers battling against the virus outbreak, and work alongside the NHS.

Founder, Doreen Johnston, said: "Our understanding is that the situation has arisen where some well-intentioned members of the public have visited the hospital personally, wanting to deliver items that they have made.

"The NHS D&G For the Love of Scrubs have agreed protocols with our local health care providers within NHS Dumfries and Galloway which take appropriate cognisance of infection control etc.

"59 pairs of surgical scrubs were delivered today to DGRI as per the protocols and we continue to meet their requests.

"Please continue to support this fantastic effort but please use your NHS D&G for the Love of Scrubs Coordinators to arrange pick up of your items.

"They will then liaise and deliver to NHS Dumfries and Galloway as per the agreed protocols that they have in place.

"Please do not attend and do deliveries of your own volition."
