Annan Athletic facing serious financial problems, officials say

Officials at League 2 side Annan Athletic say the club is facing serious financial problems due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A special meeting was held at Galabank, Annan, where fans and supporters attended were told that the outbreak and match postponements have put the club in a difficult position.

The meeting was called after the announcement that all Scottish fixtures were cancelled because of the Coronavirus spreading across the country.

Officials said the postponements had significant implications for the club and a club spokesman said after the meeting: “As a result of the very well attended and informative meeting, we are in the process of putting together a plan for going forward as a club.

“With the cancellation of first team football and training for all ages by the SPFL, we are in a position of financial difficulties and looking for guidance from the governing bodies as soon as possible.

“With the coronavirus situation developing all the time, the Annan Athletic facility will be perfectly placed to support the community with food aid and other areas of support, given the proper funding.”
