Online giant Amazon to open warehouse in Cumbria
The world's biggest online retailer is opening a depot in Cumbria
Amazon will open a delivery station on Woodlands Industrial Storage Estate in Longtown, creating around 120 jobs but only 20 are permanent.
Parcels will be shipped to the site and then loaded onto vehicles and delivered to customers. A spokesperson from Amazon says it will work with eight independent delivery companies who will transport parcels on behalf of them.
Councillor Gareth Ellis, Deputy Leader for Carlisle City Council, said: “This is an excellent show of confidence in the Carlisle economy. We welcome the investment into our community and the recognition that Carlisle is a place that is open to international investment.”
Kerry-Anne Lawlor, Country Director for Amazon Logistics said: “We are excited to open a delivery station in Carlisle where Amazon’s 20+ years of operational expertise, technology advancements and investment in transportation infrastructure is enabling faster delivery for customers than ever before seven days a week.”
The warehouse is scheduled to open in spring 2020.
