Ben Stokes' dad heads home after 37 days in hospital

The father of Cumbria's England cricket star Ben Stokes is now heading home after three operations and 37 days in hospital.

Ged Stokes, 64, who coached Workington Town and Whitehaven, became ill days after arriving in the country to watch his son play in the four-test series.

The England all-rounder missed team training during the tour due to his father's condition.

Ged now appears to be on the mend after Stokes, 28, posted a picture on Instagram of his family at the airport captioned: "You are strong and you are stubborn which is why you are still with us".

Stokes was named player of the test series as England beat South Africa 3-1 this week.

The team will once again face the Proteas in five one day internationalsbefore finishing off the winter in Sri Lanka.
