Lorry stuck under bridge in Carlisle is safely removed

A lorry has been safely removed after becoming trapped under a railway bridge in Carlisle.

All train services in and out of the city were delayed after the vehicle got stuck, on Wednesday morning, blocking part of Crown Street.

It affected routes on Avanti West Coast as well as Northern and TransPennine Express services.

Routes affected by the incident included:

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh

  • Northern between Carlisle and Morpeth / Barrow-in-Furness / Newcastle / Leeds

  • TransPennine Express between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh

The route was impassable to vehicles for a couple of hours and drivers were diverted by police.
