Rescue operation underway after scallop boat grounded off west Cumbria coast
A rescue operation is underway after reports of a scallop boat grounded off the coast of west Cumbria.
Workington RNLI's was alerted at around 4.30am by the Belfast coastguard of a vessel which had run aground between Maryport and Silloth.
Other rescue crews were also called but were unable to free the 13m boat due to the high tide.
One crewman is on board and reportedly uninjured at this time.
An RNLI boat involved in the rescue has been slightly damaged, and another attempt to retrieve the boat will be carried out at 3pm this afternoon.
