Education Secretary pledges more funding for schools in visit to west Cumbria
Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has promised to increase funding for schools while visiting Whitehaven Academy during a tour of west Cumbria.
Speaking after meeting pupils and staff, he said he was delighted the school would have a new building by 2021 and pledged further funding for all schools, in particular rural schools, under a Conservative Government.
He also said the government aims to attract more people into the teaching profession by increasing the starting salary to £30,000.
