Man arrested after fatal A66 crash
A man has died in a fatal collision between a car and a HGV on the A66. The collision occurred at the café junction at Stainmore.
The driver of the car, a red Ford Fiesta, was declared dead at the scene. His family have been informed.
Officers investigating the collision have arrested the 50-year-old driver of the HGV on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was uninjured.
Police are trying to trace a driver whose own car was in the vicinity at the time of the crash and may have witnessed the moments leading up to it.
Anyone who recognises the description of the car, a red Ford Fiesta, and saw it at around the time of the collision (5.25am – 5.30am) is urged to make contact with officers on 101.
