Hundreds turn out for The Great Cumbrian Run
Over 1,300 people pounded the streets of Carlisle, as they took on the biggest race in the county's running calendar, The Great Cumbrian Run.
Starting at the Sheepmount Athletics Stadium, participants ran through the city centre and up London Road before heading out into the countryside.
Supporters lined parts of the route, cheering the runners on and waited at the Sheepmount to give finishers some last minute encouragement over the line.
This year's winner was Marc Brown from Whitehaven, who was coming back from injury. He finished in one hour, seven minutes and 52 seconds.
This is the fourth consecutive year he has won the race.
"Everyone knows the Cumbrian run or someone that’s done it. It’s a great local event.”
Now in its 37th year the event attracts both serious athletes, those wanting a personal best and others doing it for charity.
Race organiser Matthew Graham said the event gets bigger every year.
“Bigger, better and more to come in the future. We’ve grown 20% from last year and sold out. We have added the event village this year and have more volunteers stepping forward to help our local big event.”
