Sweetheart Abbey: Remembering the chilling romantic tale is on hold
Video report by Lewis Warner.
The love Lady Dervorgilla of Galloway had for her husband was so strong that when he died in 1286, she had his heart embalmed.
The story goes, she carried it everywhere with her, in an ivory box.
It would sit on her table when she was writing and when she was entertaining guests.
It would also be buried with her in her tomb at Sweetheart Abbey. Clutched in her hand.
This tale will either warm your heart or make you shiver.
But for now, the action of remembering the chilling romantic story behind Sweetheart Abbey is on hold.
In a statement online Historic Environment Scotland said:
Due to the partial closure, visitors can look around the lower grounds free of charge.
The work is expected to take three years however a precise re-opening date has not been made public.
