Thousands flock to south Cumbria for Westmorland Show

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend one of the UK’s favourite agricultural shows near Kendal today.

Westmorland County Show is said to be Cumbria's biggest one-day event, with more than 30,000 people arriving from across the country.

In the past the show has won Tourism Event of the Year in the Cumbria Tourism Awards.

It takes place in Crooklands and gives visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with award-winning cattle, watch show jumpers and traditional Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling.

One of the most popular events of the day is the parading of hounds which hundreds of people enjoy ringside.

Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer from Channel's Sunday Brunch is scheduled to host a two demos as well as touring the show meeting farmers and producers.

Westmorland Show is home to the North West’s largest locally produced Food Hall, packed with local businesses that specialise in making food and drink from cheeses to cured meats, artisan gins, wine and whisky.
