PC World account manager stole £45k worth of stock

A Currys PC World account manager who stole more than £45,000 of high value goods from the firm's Kendal store has been jailed.

Joshua Charles Nicholson, 25, exploited a loophole in the company's system to create bogus invoices and receipts which allowed him to pinch goods which included iPhones, televisions and computers during a two-month period.

After a suspicious store manager began a probe, police discovered an "Aladdin's cave of technology" at Nicholson's home, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

Three colleagues were initially implicated and investigated before Nicholson made full confessions about his offending when interviewed.

He said he had "no idea" why he had pinched 100 items which had a total value of £45,366.58.

Police also learned Nicholson had agreed to sell two stolen iPhones for hundreds of pounds apiece.

Nicholson - who had since received counselling and GP support - admitted theft and two charges of dishonestly making a false representation.

Recorder Michael Murray jailed Nicholson, of Low Biggins, Carnforth, for 18 months for what he said had appeared to be a "strange case of greed".
