Rory Stewart, former Conservative leadership hopeful, has formally resigned from his position as Secretary of State for International Development.

The Border and Penrith MP has said for more than eight weeks that he would not serve with Boris Johnson as Prime Minister due to their differences on Brexit and prorogation.

Mr Stewart appeared to have confirmed his official resignation in a tweet, shortly after Mr Johnson took over from Theresa May.

Chancellor Philip Hammond also resigned today, he said over the weekend he wouldstep down before the new PM takes power.

Less than an hour after Mrs May's last Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Hammond tweeted his letter of resignation.
