Road closed after building wall collapses in Galashiels

A section of Galashiels town was cordoned off after part of a first floor flat collapsed onto the street.

Park Street and part of Channel Street closed to the pubic on 14 July for health and safety reasons.

Council officers have undertaken a structural assessment and have decided to rebuild the section of the wall which had collapsed.

Council officers can confirm that damage was not caused by a gas explosion.

Fire and Police officers, along with Scottish Borders Council's Building Control team, carried out an initial inspection of the damage.

Repair work is due to get underway tomorrow.

Channel street is now open to pedestrians and Park street is anticipated to open this evening but the road will remain closed until repair work is completed.
