Border Cars boss apologies to staff and customers as he struggles to save the company

The boss of Border Cars, Mike Fusco, says he tried his best to keep afloat the business and has apologised to staff and customers.

The company has now made half the staff redundant and more workers are likely to lose their jobs in the next few days.

In an exclusive television interview with ITV News, Mike Fusco said that the business had become less and less viable.

Border Cars announced they were 'winding up' the business after undergoing financial problems.

The firm has six showrooms in Carlisle, Workington, Dumfries and Stranraer.

The business said they are 'greatly saddened' to announce the news and they will be holding a closing down sale.

Border Cars was one of the biggest car dealerships in southern Scotland and Cumbria and has traded for the last 42 years, employing 224 members of staff.

The company is set to file for administration.

Staff have been warned they may have to claim wages, redundancy and holiday pay through the Government.
