Kirkcudbright actor Sam Heughan receives second honorary degree in a week
Kirkcudbright born Sam Heughan is visiting Glasgow University’s Crichton Campus in his home region of Dumfries and Galloway.
The 39-year-old, who plays Jamie Fraser in the time-travel drama 'Outlander' since 2014, was awarded an honorary degree for his artistic success and charity work.
This is his second university visit in the space of a week, last week the Scottish actor received another honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling “for his outstanding contribution to acting and charitable endeavours.”
He began his professional television career in 2004, staring in a miniseries called Island of War.
Five years later, he portrayed Scott Nielsen in BBC soap opera Doctors – a role which saw him nominated for Villain of the Year at the British Soap Awards.
In 2011, he played Prince Ashton in Television Film A Princess for Christmas. This portrayal received a nomination for Most Inspiring Performance in Television at the 20th Annual Grace Awards.
Heughan did his first voice acting performance as Mirror Master in Lego DC Super-Villans.
Prior to and during these roles, he has performed in several theatre productions, such as Guildenstern and Fortinbras in Hamlet and Batman in Batman Live.
