An 81-year-old grandmother from Galloway has become the oldest woman to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Mavis Paterson, who lives in Auchenmalg near Glenluce, took up the challenge in memory of her three children who died four years apart.

Mavis says she suffered "unimaginable grief" after her three children died in their 40s.

Mavis and her cycling partner Heather Curley have raised more than £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 960-mile cycle took three weeks, during which the pair endured hailstones and punctures.

Mavis will now pick up a Guinness World Record for her endeavour.
