M6 northbound closed after serious crash near Penrith
A crash on the M6 has closed the northbound carriageway between junctions 40 and 41.
It happened early this morning at around 7:50am and involved a lorry and a car.
The car driver has been flown to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance, and is in a serious condition.
The incident originally closed both directions of the motorway.
For more than 2 hours, drivers have been stuck in heavy traffic on the northbound carriageway.
UPDATE : The road has now reopened.
