Kendal Post Office saved from closure
Plans to close the main Post Office in Kendal have been scrapped, according to local MP Tim Farron.
The business was set to move in to the WHSmith store in the centre of the South Lakeland town.
Mr Farron raised concerns in parliament - he said the relocation would cause problems for people who need disabled access and would lead to a reduction in services.
A petition with around 4,000 signatures was handed to Post Office bosses calling for the plans to be stopped.
Farron says today's news is a 'massive victory for local residents'.
