Road gritter overtuned and crashed near Sanquhar

A road gritter which was working on the A76 Dumfries - Kilmarnock road at Mennock, a few miles south of Sanquhar.

The gritter overtuned and crashed through a roadside barrier and ended up among trees and bushes.

Passing motorists helped the driver to escape from the vehicle. He suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Ambulance personnel but did not require hospital treatment.

There were many other accidents including one on the southbound carriageway of the A74M Glasgow- Carlisle motorway between Junction 15 and 16 near Johnstonebridge seven miles south of Beattock.
