Copeland Borough Council funds community-led housing refurbishments
Copeland Borough Council has awarded £73,500 to support the substantial refurbishment of ten community-led houses in Ulpha, in the Duddon Valley.
The funding is part of a larger pot drawn down from central Government to help to address housing needs in local communities.
All current residents are over 65 and have typically retired from farming or forestry.
The cottages, owned by the Joseph and Eleanor Gunson Almshouse Trust, allow these residents to stay within the community close to friends and family.
Two houses were upgraded in 2017 and the grants from Copeland Council and CGP Publishing will see two more fully refurbished and others modernised.
Copeland Council has commissioned ACTion With Communities in Cumbria to help deliver its Community-Led Housing Initiative, providing local occupancy housing which is available to rent or to buy.
