Region recognised in New Year's Honours list 2019

This year, a number of people across Cumbria and southern Scotland have made the Queen's 2019 New Year's Honours List.

Business leaders, charity volunteers and educational pioneers have been recognised for their outstanding achievements. All are figures who have made a huge difference to their communities.

The following people from Cumbria and southern Scotland are confirmed to receive an Honour in 2019 :

Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

⚬ Elizabeth Ashley Cadman of Dumfries and Galloway, for services to international development.

⚬ Dr Stephen John Lee of Peebles, for services to forestry.

⚬ Professor Anna Louse Meredith of Tweeddale for services to animal welfare and the veterinary profession.

⚬ George Wilson Weir (better known as Doddie) of Melrose for services to rugby, Motor Neurone Disease research and the community in the Scottish Borders

Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

⚬ Christopher John Armstrong of Wigton, for services to the Criminal Justice System and the local community.

⚬ Hew Ormiston Chalmers of Stanraer, for services to Olympic Sport

⚬ Norman Clarkson of Calderbridge, near Seascale, for services to the community in West Cumbria.

⚬ John Craig Davidson of Selkirkshire, Ettrick and Lauderdale, for services to people with Tourette's Syndrome.

⚬ John Milburn Holmes of Kendal, for services to the community in South Lakeland.

⚬ Brian Roy Hough of Carlisle, for services to the local community and to Diabetes UK.

⚬ Victoria Helena Stanger of East Curthwaite, for services to International Development.

⚬ Duncan Edward Worsell of Beckermet, for services to the Civil Nuclear Industry.
