A £28m 'superschool' in Dumfries is likely to remain closed to pupils until the new year, according to the local authority.

The North West Community Campus was closed on 7 September, when a pupil was hit by a falling smart board.

It was the latest in a series of health and safety incidents at the school, which was built by the contractor Grahams.

An independent inspection of the premises then took place, finding around 1,200 potential issues.

In a newsletter sent to parents, Dumfries and Galloway Council have now said "The Hub South West and Grahams have given a commitment to have all necessary works complete by December 2018".

The letter goes on to say "it is likely that the time for the decant will extend to the new year."

Around 800 pupils, who attend the campus, have been moved to other schools while the remedial work takes place.

Parents have hit out, demanding a timescale on repairs, and assurance that disruption to their children's education will be taken into account when they take their exams next year.
