Missing doctor's body found in woodland

The body of a man found in woodland near Beeswing, in Dumfries and Galloway, has been identified as that of a missing doctor.

Doctor George Alex Porteous hadn't been seen since leaving his work in Lockerbie last Tuesday evening (18 September).

His disappearance sparked a major search, involving three mountain rescue teams.

Officers found the body of a man at about 11am on Tuesday 25 September, and he has now been identified as Doctor Porteous, whose family have been informed.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
