Two people have been arrested in connection to a fire that killed five horses and a dog in Distington.

A 43-year-old man and a 17-year-old male were arrested on suspicion of arson. They have been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

The fire started at around half ten on Friday evening, leaving a barn completely destroyed and killed a number of family pets.

Cumbria Police are working alongside Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service to investigate the cause of the fire on the farm on Barfs Road.

The fire caused £60,000 worth of damage and police are now appealing for people to come forward with any information that may help with the investigation.

Hundreds of tribute messages have been shared on social media and over £2000 has been raised on a Just Giving page.

The family has also received a number of gift boxes from the local community and tack for their remaining horses.

Police and Fire Service investigations continue.
