Deaths at Jim Clark Rally 'could have been avoided'

A sheriff has ruled that the deaths of three people at the Jim Clark Rally could have been avoided if they had been banned from standing where the crash happened.

A joint fatal accident inquiry was held into the deaths at the rally in the Scottish Borders and a fourth fatality at the Snowman Rally the previous year.

Sheriff Kenneth Maciver found no reasonable precautions could have avoided the death at the Snowman Rally.

Joy Robson, 51, lost her life at the Snowman Rally near Inverness in 2013.

Iain Provan, 64, Elizabeth Allan, 63, and Len Stern, 71, lost their lives at the Jim Clark Rally near Coldstream in 2014.
