A Dumfries-trained horse has run in one of the world's richest races.

Nakeeta, ridden by jockey Glyn Schofield, crossed the line in fifth place in the Melbourne Cup in the early hours of this morning.

Trained by Carrutherstown-based Iain Jardine, the horse took to the turf in front of a 100,000 crowd at Australia's Flemington Racecourse and a worldwide television audience of hundreds of millions.

On Twitter after the race Mr Jardine said he'd been targeting a top 10 finish so was delighted with fifth place.
