GMB's Sellafield firefighters stage second walkout
GMB's Sellafield firefighters are staging a second walkout today in a dispute over pay and working conditions.
Industrial action is taking place between 6.00am and 6.30pm.
Firefighters were due to strike on 24 July, but more time was given to management to put in place a promised resolution to the dispute by the end of September.
GMB reports a resolution was not put in place.
The union in now accusing Sellafield’s management on site of intimidation.
GMB says members have been told their jobs could potentially be outsourced and that striking firefighters could face the sack:
Meanwhile, Sellafield say that GMB removed safety cover on Tuesday, on the first day of industrial action:
Crews at Sellafield work to keep more than 10,000 workers on site safe, along with the surrounding communities.
They are ready to respond immediately to fires and other emergencies.
In a separate dispute, 3,000 GMB members at Sellafield walked out on September 27.
Unite the Union's 1,100 members at Sellafield have also voted to take strike action in the same dispute.
