Cumbria Pride is set to campaign for LGBT rights in Japan, at this year's event on Saturday 16 September.

Amnesty International will be hosting the campaign, staffed by Amnesty Carlisle, West Cumbria, Allerdale and William Howard School Groups.

Gay rights supporters are invited to show their support by taking selfies with campaign placards.

The placards will promote legislation to guarantee the rights of LGBT people in Japan.

The idea is for people to post their photos across social media.

In Japan, LGBT people face discrimination in every day life.

This includes in employment, education, access to health services and family life.

Chair of the national Amnesty LGBTI Network, who will be speaking at Cumbria Pride on Saturday, said:

To take part in the campaign, visit the Amnesty Marquee at Cumbria Pride.
