"Trusted" drug courier caught in Cumbria jailed for three years

A "trusted" drug courier caught transporting crack cocaine in a stolen car near Kendal has been jailed for three years.

Said Mohamed, 30, was driving a Mercedes SLK which was stopped on the M6 southbound, on the evening of 14 June, by police who employed a three-vehicle "boxing-in" tactic.

A sports bag in the boot of the vehicle was found to contain £12,540 worth of crack cocaine and £6,680 cash.

Mohamed initially denied the offence. However, he later pleaded guilty to possessing a class A drug with intent to supply, and possessing criminal property.

He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today, Monday 7 August. His job, the court heard, had been to collect the criminal consignment from Scotland before delivering it to the Manchester area.

It emerged Mohamed had been sent a written death threat since his arrest, and that his partner had been threatened as well.

Handing down the immediate prison sentence, Recorder David Potter told Mohamed, of Oakley Avenue, Ealing, London: "These are serious offences.

"Crack cocaine, as I am sure you know, devastates the lives of those who are addicted to it."
