University of Cumbria celebrates 10th anniversary
The University of Cumbria turns 10-years-old today!
It's one of Britain's youngest universities, but it's history goes back over 150 years.
The anniversary is being marked with a 300-mile torch relay.
The torch is travelling between the university's campuses across England.
It starts from the London campus, hopping into a black cab and heading for Euston Station.
Just before midday, it will continue its journey from Lancaster station where a member of staff will transport it by bicycle to the Bowerham Road campus.
It will continue its journey to Ambleside in one of the university’s electric vans, arriving at the Ambleside campus at 1.30pm.
From there the torch will make its way to Carlisle, arriving at Brampton Road campus at 3.15pm, before the final leg of its journey to Fusehill Street campus.
Some of the university’s ‘Team Ten’ runners, who recently completed the Hexham half-marathon, will undertake this last leg of the relay, with the torch arriving at Fusehill Street at 4.15pm.
It was formed in 2007 from the union of Cumbria Institute of the Arts, St Martin’s College, Lancaster and UClan’s Cumbrian sites.
The university now has six sites in Carlisle, Lancaster, Ambleside, Workington, Barrow-in-Furness and London.
