Little Ross Island off the southern coast of Dumfries and Galloway is looking for a new owner, on the market for £325,000.

It shot to fame more than 50 years ago, when the lighthouse keeper on the island was murdered:

On Thursday 18th August 1960, two lighthouse keepers were on duty.

The secretary of the local RNLI and his son arrived on the island to eat lunch and have a walk.

But instead, they discovered the body of one of the keepers, Hugh Clark, in a bedroom inside the lighthouse.

There was a nationwide hunt for the other keeper, Robert Dickinson, who disappeared after the murder.

He was located, arrested and found guilty of murdering his fellow keeper - he was sentenced to hang, but this was downgraded to a life sentence.

Since the murder, the lighthouse has been unmanned and operates on an automatic system.
