MP calls for probe into Cumbria's 'shocking' mental healthcare
At least one mental health patient a week is being transferred out of Cumbria to receive healthcare.
Some patients are being set as far afield as Cardiff and Aberdeen with many sent to private hospitals, leading to a £3.7 million cost to Cumbria’s health services.
The situation has prompted Workington MP Sue Hayman to write to Prime Minister Theresa May calling for an investigation into the provision of mental health services in Cumbria.
Mrs Hayman described reports that 59 people in the last year were transferred out of Cumbria for mental healthcare as “shocking”.
Her letter due to Mrs May stated:
Lookaround is due to speak to Mrs Hayman tomorrow to hear more about this issue in tomorrow’s programme.
