Dozens of veterans and well-wishers have celebrated the life of a Second World War veteran, by attending his funeral near Dumfries.

Billy Cook died aged 92, but because he had no family his friends were concerned that nobody would show up to his funeral.

One family friend, Corporal Ewan Howieson, posted an appeal on social media to urge local people to come along and show their support for the veteran, who joined the RAF during World War Two, when he was just 18.

The appeal was successful, as more than one hundred people arrived to celebrate the veteran's life.
