DG One: 'Fundamental flaws' to be examined at council meeting
A council report which reveals 'fundamental flaws' in the construction across a number of council buildings in Dumfries and Galloway, will be discussed at a special meeting today.
The council says it highlights that private sector construction contractors failed to prioritise public safety when constructing the buildings.
At the centre of the report is the £17million DG One site in Dumfries - which opened in 2008 but a string of problems led to its complete closure in 2014.
A long-running legal battle meant it took almost two years before the council reached a settlement with contractors to allow the current £10million repair programme to begin.
The construction issues listed in the report includes missing wall ties, corrosion to steel columns, ductwork installed incorrectly, drainage problems and replacement of stone cladding.
It's now estimated at least £3million in repairs will be needed on the building.
