Sunday's Great North Swim in Windermere cancelled

The programme of events for the Sunday of the Great North Swim, scheduled for 11 June at Windermere in Cumbria, has been cancelled.

The decision was taken at 4pm on Friday 9 June by the independent event planning group as the weather forecast for Sunday predicts very strong gusting winds, which would be unsuitable for open water swimming.

All entrants are being notified of the decision.

The Saturday 10 June programme of events is scheduled to go ahead as planned, so swimmers will be offered the option to take part on Saturday, or a full refund of their entry fee.
