Power restored after blackout hits 1,000 properties

More than 1,000 Cumbrian properties have been affected by power cuts this morning.

Electricity North West reported that 986 people were without power in the CA10 and CA11 postcode areas of Penrith.

The estimated time at which power would be returned to the area was initially listed as 5:30pm, however the fault was fixed by 9am.

The blackout was down to a fault on Electricity North West's high voltage network.

A further 43 people were without power in the Whitehaven area, at the postcode CA28 6, however the lights are also back on there.
