Around thirty firefighters are continuing to tackle a major fire at a warehouse in Maryport, which started yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the SIS Pitches warehouse, which manufactures artificial turf for sports, on Glasson Industrial Estate at 1.30pm yesterday.

The A596 road between Maryport and Flimby remains closed and all rail services between Maryport and Workington are still cancelled.

No individuals were injured in the blaze and there are ongoing police investigations into the cause of the fire.

Eye witnesses from as far away as Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway (92 miles) reported that they could see the smoke.

Police evacuated nearby offices and building yesterday afternoon, as firefighters tried to get the blaze under control.

The nearby factory, which manufactures the synthetic pitches, has been unaffected and will continue production as normal.
