Woman killed in crash with trailer

A woman in her twenties has died after the car she was driving collided with a trailer on the A6 near Shap.

The collision happened at around 8:30am this morning.

The trailer that hit her Citroen car was being pulled by a Mercedes Sprinter van and was carrying a mini-digger.

Police say the woman was 26 years old and from Penrith area. She was confirmed dead at the scene.

The car was driving south and the van was heading north.

The road remains closed in both directions with diversions in place as police officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
