Thirty firefighters bring farm blaze under control

Thirty firefighters have brought a farmhouse blaze at Crossmichael, near Castle Douglas, under control.

The building at Drumskelly, on the outskirts of Crossmichael village, was gutted by the fire, which took three hours to tackle.

Fire crews from Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie, Gatehouse of Fleet and Dumfries were involved in the operation.

The fire is thought to have started upstairs in the house. It spread quickly and flames were going through the roof before the firefighters arrived on the scene.

The couple who live there managed to escape unhurt and alert the emergency services.
