Two people have been arrested, after the death of a man at a prison in Cumbria.

Inmate Keith Abbot, 32, was found dead in his cell at HMP Haverigg Prison on 15 July 2016.

A 45-year-old man from Birkenhead and a 26-year-old man from Liverpool have now been arrested in connection with his death, and are currently detained for questioning.

Three other men, who are currently serving prison sentences in north west England, were arrested on Monday 30 January in connection with this death and have subsequently been bailed and remanded.

They are aged 30, 25 and 22 respectively.

The investigation is aiming to establish facts surrounding Keith Abbot’s death, which is being treated as suspicious.

It forms part of a wider operation - Knightsbridge - which is investigating a number of reports of physical and sexual assaults within HMP Haverigg, as well as the circumstances of two deaths inside the prison.
