Five men charged following school abuse probe

Five men have been charged in connection with allegations of historical abuse at a former residential school in south Cumbria.

The offences are said to have taken place at Underlay Hall School near Kirkby Lonsdale. The school closed in 2012.

Police say the men have been charged as part of Operation Tweed - a Cumbria Constabulary investigation that started in July 2014.

The five have been charged with the following:

Errol Mayer, 72, of Kirkby Lonsdale, has been charged with 18 counts of assault ABH and ten charges of child cruelty.

· John Studley, 64, of Silverdale, Lancashire, has been charged with one count of assault ABH.

· Frederick Taylor, 74, of Sowerby Bridge, Calderdale, has been charged with one count of assault ABH.

· James Farish, 57, of Kendal, has been charged with one count of assault ABH.

· David Hadwin, 70, of Kirkby Lonsdale, has been charged with one count of assault ABH.

They've all been bailed to appear at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on February 15.
