Hundreds of refugees to be re-settled in Cumbria
Councillors have approved plans to re-settle hundreds of refugees across Cumbria.
At a Cumbria County Cabinet meeting today, two recommendations were both approved by the council.
The first means that 285 refugees, many of them from Syria, will be re-settled in the county between 2017 and 2020.
The second commits the council to offering support for unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
Four children will be supported in the county by 31 March 2017, and if other asylum seeking children arrive in Cumbria they will be the Council’s responsibility as Children Looked After.
